I have duplicate Office Home app icons on my Start menu. I have tried getting through to Support, but keep getting told to try again later, multiple times. The icons are not stubs, and actually start the target app with slight differences [Recent Files are different, for instance]. Environment: Dell laptop,16GB, Windows 10 Pro, verall updates, Office Home subscription, single install from the subscription. Original problem: Office purchase and install on Dec Install had problems that didn't show up until I tried third party apps that needed to locate Outlook.

I discovered that the Office install was generally a disaster from a folder structure perspective. I confirmed the subscription was ok, and the apps showed up as part of the subscription. I ended up following the Support guidance and rand the uninstall Office utility. That seemed to finish with no problems. I then app download gives two icons the Support Reinstall Office utility, made sure to decrement the count of Office installs against the subscription, and the re-install seemed to complete with no problems.

The new install seemed to correct all the folder construction problems and things seemed to be ok. Unfortunately, I now have duplicate icons in the Start menu for the Office apps.

Palcouk, CTR is a whole new world for us old guys. Your pointing out what I should have been aware of was a big help. Somehow I missed the significance of the install type. I went to the registry and confirmed I have a CTR install.

Does that imply I have traces of a trial Office still around? What do you conclude from two different Account entries for two different Word installs? What do you recommend? I looked at the repair tool again and there were entries for CTR apps that I did not recognize so decided to not start any of them. I did run the Office uninstall utility before the re-install and it said it was successful.

I am really confused with two apparently different Office installs. I am early in this system build, so now would be the time to drop back and punt. Both list the same version and build numbers, just different sources. How in the world? What fixed the problem was going to Settings and uninstalling the desktop Office apps before I uninstalled the Office apps with the utility, app download gives two icons.

I did a new Office install after I deactivated the existing single install. When it was all said and done I have a single icon for the Office apps and each of them have a pointer to the file location in the pull down list from the icon. I went to the location on the hard drive where the start menu programs are listed.
